First-half report

Boden blow for Latics

Scott Boden shot Macclesfield Town into a first-half lead in their pre-season friendly against Macclesfield Town at Boundary Park.

It was a disappointing opening period for Latics against the Conference club.

Jonson Clarke-Harris (pictured) had two goal attempts in the opening 15 minutes, but both were easily saved by keeper Rhys Taylor.

Latics' keeper Mark Oxley was then called into action making a smart save to keep out an angled shot from striker Arthur Gnahoua.

There was a shock when Latics fell behind in the 34th minute through Boden.

The former Chesterfield striker produced an excellent turn on the edge of the box before seeing his shot take a deflection as it looped over Oxley high into the roof of the net.

Latics came close to equalising twice on the stroke of half time.

Adam Rooney's header from James Dayton's corner brought a flying save from Taylor and then James Tarkowski's free header from Cristian Montano's corner cleared the crossbar.

Half-time: Latics 0, Macclesfield Town 1.
