Latics' last pre-season workout

Latics have their final pre-season workout tomorrow when SkyBet Championship club Huddersfield Town visit Boundary Park, kick off 3pm.

It is the dress rehearsal before Latics' SkyBet League 1 campaign kicks off at Stevenage tomorrow week.

Manager Lee Johnson says the Terriers will provide an ideal test for his new-look side.

He explained: "We planned our pre-season so we had the best opposition last.

"It will be a good test for us as they are an established Championship side which has some very good players.

"We will be pitting ourselves against a team from a division where we want to be."

Huddersfield, who narrowly avoided relegation last season, have, like Latics, had a busy summer in the transfer market.

Manager Mark Robins, the Chadderton lad to guided Huddersfield to safety in the 2012/13 campaign, has so far made six signings.

And the Terriers will have considerably more firepower as they include four strikers - James Vaughan (Norwich), Martin Paterson (Burnley), Jon Stead (Bristol City) and Daniel Carr (Dulwich Hamlet).

The two other arrivals are winger Adam Hamil (Wolves) and left-back Jake Carroll (St Patrick's Athletic).

Huddersfield have had a disappointing pre-season winning only one of their five friendlies - against Rotherham.

They lost 4-2 at home to Spanish side Real Betis in midweek and also been beaten by Chesterfield while drawing against York City and Guiseley.

Johnson' side, by contrast, is unbeaten in its four warm-up matches. They defeated Curzon Ashton and Macclesfield Town and drawn against Dinamo Bucharest and Accrington Stanley.

Latics' manager is satisfied overall with the way his side's pre-season has gone.

"We have played some good football, though there are still things to work on. Overall I feel we are in a good place and ready for our 46 game league campaign," he said.

Admission is by cash only on the turnstiles at £10 for adults and £5 concessions.
