Oxley impresses Latics' manager

Lee Johnson believes new Latics' keeper Mark Oxley will be a big hit at Boundary Park.

Latics' manager is convinced Oxley (pictured), signed on a season-long loan from Hull City, will seize the opportunity to play regular first-team football.

The 22-year-old has made only one first-team appearance in almost five years with the Tigers, though he played eight games during loan spells at Grimsby and Burton.

Johnson said: "We have had Mark watched and believe he is ready to play.

"It is important for a keeper be a number one and be a massive part of the club.

"He has to be a spiritual leader and, having done a lot of due diligence on him, we are hopefully he will push on with us."

* Johnson has also revealed he is optimistic about signing a young central defender on loan from a higher-division club in the next couple of weeks.
