Fans to bike from Barcelona to London

Four Latics' fans are to take part in a 1,300 mile sponsored cycle ride from Barcelona to London.

And they are aiming to raise £1,300 for Cancer Research.

Brothers Steve and James Knight have organised the ride, which starts on August 6th, to raise funds for the charity after their father Graham died of the illness last March at the age of 67.

They will be joined by friends Michael McDermott and Daniel Hopwood on the epic two-week journey, the route of which will take them over Mont Ventoux which is made famous for being in the route for the Tour de France.

Steve, a 30-year-old who has a barber's shop in Lees, said: "We are all Latics' fans and one of the aims is to be pictured at the summit of Mont Ventoux wearing our Latics' shirts.

"We aim to cover the 1,300 miles in a fortnight and raise £1 a mile."

Steve (pictured) is such an avid fan he also sponsors the kit of first-team professional Joe Cooper saying he has known the Springhead teenager since he first visited his barber's shop as a young boy.
