Under-18's defeat Accrington
Latics under-18's defeated Accrington Stanley 2-1 in their opening pre-season friendly.It was a good workout for the youngsters, especially as they had only been back in training for one week.
The match was played over three 30-minute periods due to the hot weather.
Latics fell behind in the opening third to a headed goal from a corner.
The equaliser came in the second period when Kyle Hardman released Ben Grant whose cross was headed home by Danny Byrnes.
Grant hit the bar and Hardman had a shot saved as Latics were unlucky not to move ahead.
The winner came in the third quarter when the Accrington keeper pushed a John Pritchard corner into his own net.
The only dampener for Latics was an injury to keeper Paul Tyson who pulled a thigh muscle.
