First pre-season loss for Latics

Latics under-18's suffered their first loss in four pre-season matches when they were beaten 2-0 by Huddersfield Town at Chapel Road.

Tony Philliskirk's injury-hit side, which had won its three previous matches, gave a good account of itself, but lacked a cutting edge.

"On the balance of the game we deserved to draw and may be win, but again our Achilles heel was not being able to score," explained Philliskirk.

Huddersfield took the lead midway through the opening half when, ironically, Latics were having their best spell of the match.

Latics were caught in possession on half way and Huddersfield scored after a deadly counter attack.

Jordan Bove had a great chance to equalise when clean through on goal only to shoot wide.

Huddersfield doubled their advantage shortly before half time when keeper Joel Coleman misjudged a long ball which bounced over him as an opponent ran through to slot home.

Latics played some neat football in the second half, but lacked a finish.

Bove had another great chance after being set up by Jack Tuohy, but this time shot high and wide with only the keeper to beat.
