Latics sink Mariners
Latics beat Grimsby Town 4-0 to make it three pre-season wins out of three.The match, played over three 30-minute periods because of the heat, saw Latics produce some excellent football for an hour before they tired.
Latics established a 2-0 lead in the first third through a Jordan Bove penalty and excellent individual effort from Danny Byrnes.
They added two more goals in the second third through a fine individual effort from Emile Tansinda and shot smashed into the top corner by Haydn Foulds.
The last period lacked the intensity of the opening two, though Latics still had chances to have won by a wider margin.
Defensively, goalkeeper Joel Coleman had only one save to make in the opening hour while schoolboy Chris Renshaw had none in his half hour in goal.
