Latics in move for ex Barcelona player

Latics are hoping to sign former Barcelona player Federico Bessone before today's loan transfer window closes at 5pm.

The 29-year-old left back, who is a free agent, is due to fly into Leeds/Bradford airport from Barcelona in early afternoon.

Bessone (pictured) will then dash to Boundary Park where he is expected to complete the formalities of a deal for the remainder of the season.

Manager Lee Johnson is looking for left-back cover for Jonathan Grounds who has picked up eight yellow cards and is only two bookings away from a two-match ban.

Argentine-born Bessone kicked off his career at Barcelona where he played for their 'C' side alongside an emerging Lionel Messi.

He later played for Espanyol 'B' before moving to England in 2008 to join Swansea for the first of two spells with the Welsh club.

Bessone has also played for Leeds United and in the current campaign had a short spell at Swindon Town.

Since leaving Swindon, Bessone has been in Spain training with La Liga side Espanyol.
