Truelove scores twice to earn Latics point
Latics displayed grit and determination to battle from behind to draw 3-3 against Accrington Stanley in the Football League Youth Alliance's North West Conference.The youth team found itself 3-1 down early in the second half before they produced a great fightback culminating in an 89th minute equaliser from Jack Truelove.
It was a bitter-sweet match for Latics, who fielded five schoolboys in their starting line-up, as coach Mick Priest explained.
He said: "Overall it was a disappointing performance in which we didn't pass the ball as well as we can.
"On a positive note, we showed good character to comeback to earn a point."
Stanley twice held the lead in the opening period with goals Latics could have prevented.
Sandwiched in-between was a Truelove strike from a free kick which arrowed into the far corner.
Latics were caught on the counter attack early in the second half as Stanley went 3-1 ahead.
Michael Brewster reduced the deficit on the hour with a spectacular free kick from 25 yards.
Truelove had the last word heading an 89th minute equaliser as Latics finished in the ascendancy.
