Star striker an absentee as Latics draw again
Oldham Athletic Ladies drew their third game in a row, this time a 1-1 stalemate against Manchester Rovers at Hough End Playing Fields in the Greater Manchester Women’s Football League, Division One.
Latics were almost at full strength with the only absentee a late cry-off from star striker Lauren Steel.
With a very strong wind at their backs in the first half, it was essential that Latics took full advantage which they did taking the lead after only five minutes through a long-range shot from Gemma Smith.
The rest of the first half saw Latics press forward but to no avail. Conditions should have seen them shooting at every opportunity, but indecision and lack of incisiveness kept their lead to a single goal.
The second half saw more of the same from Latics as they pressed for a second goal. Catherine Hyde and Kim Shaw, in midfield, won lots of possession but Latics lacked any 'Steel' in front of goal.
And it was to prove costly as Rovers equalised after 75 minutes, a toe poke following a goalmouth melee.
Sunday's opponents will be league runners-up FC United, of Manchester. The match is at Broadhurst Playing Fields, kick off 2pm.
