Winchester's sending off the only blemish

Carl Winchester’s sending off was only blemish on a good workout for Latics’ reserves  who were involved in an entertaining goalless draw against Hull City in Central League, First Division.

Midfield man Winchester (pictured) was dismissed with seven minutes left for dissent after a free kick was not awarded in his favour after he had been fouled.

Latics had plenty of cheer as lively loan player Bobby Reid had his first competitive game for Latics while Cristian Montano and Cliff Byrne continued their comebacks after injury as all three played over an hour.

Latics created a number of chances in the opening half, the best falling to Daniel Taylor who was denied by the crossbar.

The Tigers also had their moments, though keeper Alex Cisak only had one save of note to make late in the half to deny Lewis Clarkson.

It was a similar story in the second half as substitute Jack Poxon had a shot deflected just wide while David Mellor’s free kick narrowly cleared the crossbar.

Cisak also made two excellent stops to deny Daniel Emerton and Jonathan Margetts who both burst clean through while Margetts also struck the crossbar as the game surprisingly ended goalless.
