Second-half report

13 March 2013

Matchwinner Montano

Cristian Montano scored a spectacular matchwinning goal for Latics' reserves who won 3-2 at Morecambe in Central League, West Division.

The two other Latics' goals came from Daniel Taylor who took his season's total to nine for the reserves.

Latics, who finished the opening half 1-1, could have taken the lead soon after the restart when Montano (pictured) forced a decent diving save from keeper Jack Cookson.

It was Morecambe who then took control as Latics lived dangerously.

Jordan Burrow shot just wide, Chris Doyle's header was narrowly off target, Joe McGee struck the far upright from the left of the box and Andrew Fleming's drive flew fractionally wide.

It was no surprise when Morecambe regained the lead midway through the half.

Jordan Burrow beat keeper Liam Jacob to a right-wing cross and the ball looped into an empty net.

Latics quickly made it 2-2 when Taylor squeezed home a far-post header from Montano's right-wing corner.

Taylor might have completed his hat trick not long after but couldn't connect cleanly with a right-wing cross from Montano.

Latics took the lead for the first time in the match in the 74th minute when Montano struck a beauty from 30 yards which looped over the head of keeper Cookson. It was a goal worthy of winning any game.

Full-time: Morecambe reserves 2, Latics reserves 3.
