Smith injury worry

10 March 2013

Wesolowski needed stitches

Matt Smith is an injury worry for Latics' vital npower League One match against Hartlepool United on Tuesday at Boundary Park.

The striker (pictured) limped out of yesterday's 1-0 defeat at Tranmere Rovers with a knee injury.

Smith jarred his knee and the worry is that he left Prenton Park with the joint swollen.

Caretaker Manager Tony Philliskirk explained that Smith will be assessed today at Boundary Park when there ought to be a clearer picture as to the severity of the injury.

Late in the game, James Wesolowski also retired early after sustaining a nasty cut to the top of his head and which needed stitching.

The Aussie wanted to carry on but, by the time the cut had been stitched, the match would have been almost over which is why he was immediately replaced by Dean Furman.
