McIntosh's hot scoring streak

Murray's wish for Carlton

Carlton McIntosh, released by Latics, has finished the season on a hot scoring streak.

The 18-year-old striker (pictured) made it four goals in his final four games before leaving Latics with their consolation in the 3-1 defeat at Manchester United today in the semi final of the Lancashire Senior Cup.

There was a posse of scouts at the game at The Cliff and reserve-team manager Paul Murray is hoping McIntosh caught the eye.

Murray said: "The United side contained a lot of players who are being released which is why there were a lot of scouts at the game.

"My challenge to our players was to make the scouts watch them rather than the United players.

"I was pleased for Carlton who made it four goals in four games and hopefully he will get fixed up."

Murray described it as a "tough lesson"  for his side which was on the back foot for most of the match.

He said: "We had five trialists in our side and it is hard to integrate them, especially against a side like United which has probably played together for years.

"We looked tired and lethargic having played Monday and Friday and some of the lads were in holiday mode.

"It was a disappointing to finish the season like that."
