Northern Ireland under-21s lose in Cyprus

Kirk Millar (pictured) was an unused substitute while Carl Winchester didn't feature through injury for Northern Ireland under-21's who lost 3-0 in Cyprus as they kicked off their UEFA European Championship qualifying campaign on a disappointing note.

But Winchester's twin brother Jude, who plays in the Scottish Premier League for Kilmarnock, made the starting line up at the Makarios Stadium, Nicosia.

Played in 33 degree heat, Stephen Robinson's side fell behind after 19 minutes when Onisiforos Roushias connected with a Pieros Sotiriou cross.

Cyprus extended their lead just short of the hour mark through Zacharias Theodorou with a shot across the face of goal and beyond Ross Glendinning.

Then, ten minutes after that, Soritiou volleyed home a third to complete a comprehensive victory for Cyprus.

Northern Ireland are next in action on September 9th when they travel to Belgium.
