Smith rejects Latics' offer

Matt on the move

Latics are resigned to losing striker Matt Smith who has rejected the offer of a new, improved contract to stay at Boundary Park.

Lee Johnson has spoken to Smith's agent who has revealed that the player is in demand.

"Matt has received a number of offers and I have no doubt he will be at a Championship club next season," explained Latics' manager.

In his two seasons with Latics following his capture from non-league club Solihull Moors, the 23-year-old Smith made 21 starts and a further 54 appearances as a substitute, scoring 14 goals.

Four of the goals came in last season's FA Cup run as he found the net twice in the victory against Liverpool and also in both matches against Everton.
