Mixed fortunes for Latics

Latics had a mixed bag of results against Accrington Stanley in their latest Academy matches.

The under-11's were involved in a remarkable match losing 10-8.

Latics were 4-2 ahead after two of the four quarters, but suffered a disastrous third quarter in which they conceded five goals.

Lewis Walsh scored a hat trick for Latics, Niall Dolan hit two and the others came from Daniel Cavanagh, Louie Bull and a trialist.

Jake Barnes scored twice, including a late winner, as the under-12's beat Stanley 2-1.

It was a scrappy game, but pleasing result according to manager Craig Large.

Lee McNamara scored a brace as the under-14's won a hard-fought contest against Stanley by a 2-1 scoreline.

Manager Pete Wild described his team as showing good character to grind out victory.

The under-15's were held to a 2-2 draw having been punished for defensive lapses.

Ryan Leonard gave Latics the lead, Stanley hit back to lead 2-1 before Mwiya Malumo made it 2-2.

The under-10's lost 6-2 having conceded four goals in the last period to undo their good work of the remainder of the match.

Patrick Taylor found the net for Latics whose other goal came from a Stanley player finding his own net.

The under-16's were well beaten 4-0 by Stanley.

The damage was done in the opening half when Latics found themselves 3-0 down.

And it was a day to forget for the under-13's who lost 9-1 to Stanley after what was described as a poor performance.
