Youngster breaks leg

Latics' fabulous victory at Burnley yesterday in the quarter finals of the Lancashire FA Youth Cup was overshadowed by a serious injury sustained by Michael Brewster.

The 17-year-old second-year scholar has fractured the fibula in his left leg.

Midfield man Brewster (pictured) was injured in the opening minutes of the match at Burnley's Gawthorpe Training Ground.

As Brewster went to make a tackle, his standing leg buckled.

An ambulance was called and Brewster was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital where an x-ray revealed a fracture to the fibula.

Brewster is to have further checks to discover the severity of the injury and to see if surgery is needed.
