Philliskirk in seventh heaven

Danny Philliskirk gave Latics a 1-0 interval lead in their FA Cup with Budweiser, first-round replay at Wolves.

The striker (pictured) seized on a blunder by goalkeeper Carl Ikeme to score his seventh goal of the season for Latics at a near-deserted Molineux.

Latics wasted a glorious chance to take the lead in the eighth minute.

Philliskirk was put clean through by a great pass from Korey Smith, but his shot was well saved by Ikeme.

The rebound fell invitingly to Cristian Montano who blazed over from the edge of the box.

Wolves had their first chance after quarter of an hour when a drive from Kevin McDonald was well turned round the post by keeper Mark Oxley.

And from the resulting corner, Ethan Ebanks-Landell shot into the side netting as he ghosted in at the far post.

Latics took the lead in the 21st minute after winning a free kick 25 yards from goal when Jonson Clarke-Harris was bundled off the ball by George Elokobi who was booked.

Clarke-Harris' low free kick was saved by Ikeme who appeared to have hold of the ball only for it to spill from his grasp allowing Philliskirk to poke in the rebound.

Referee Keith Stroud appeared uncertain whether to award the goal but, after a glance to his assistant, pointed to the centre spot for a restart.

Wolves hit back as Jake Cassidy forced a diving save from Oxley and then Leigh Griffiths burst through only to be thwarted by a poor first touch.

Latics might have added a second goal when James Tarkowski headed narrowly over from a corner by Anton Rodgers.

Half-time: Wolves 0, Latics 1.
