Goalless at Priestfield, but Latics dominate play

Latics dominated the goalless opening half of their Sky Bet League 1 match at Gillingham.

It was a frustrating period for Latics, though, who just couldn't find a way to goal.

Latics created all the running and the home side manage only one goal attempt.

Latics, who were attacking The Rainham End, made a bright start creating two goal attempts in the first three minutes.

Korey Smith fired well over and Danny Philliskirk's header forced a diving save from keeper Stuart Nelson.

Gillingham had another escape from a short corner from James Dayton. Joseph Mills fired over a low cross and a home player almost sliced the ball into his own net.

Smith had another chance in the 34th minute, an excellent shot on the turn from outside the box which forced a smart save from Nelson low to his right to turn the ball round the post for a corner.

Gillingham's only chance of the half came in stoppage time when Danny Kedwell's header from a Danny Whelpdale long throw looped narrowly wide.

Half-time: Gillingham 0, Latics 0.
