Latics' Christmas Toy Appeal

7 November 2013

Help provide some Christmas cheer

Latics have launched a Christmas Toy Appeal in association with the SafeGuard Group.

Toys and gifts are needed for boys and girls aged 0/16 years. Please bring them unwrapped so they can be sorted into the appropriate age and gender categories. It will also test the players’ wrapping skills as they have offered to help.

They are asking everyone who goes Christmas shopping to buy an extra present and bring it to the We Are Latics club shop.

This year the Club would like to do it bigger and better than ever which is why they have launched a Christmas Toy Appeal in association with the SafeGuard Group.

Each year, members of the first-team squad and mascot Chaddy the Owl go to the Royal Oldham Hospital to give presents to children who aren’t fortunate enough to spend the festive period at home.

“This year, we hope will be the best visit yet and I would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone at the SafeGuard Group for their involvement.”

“It is extremely humbling to visit the Children’s Ward at Christmas. The staff are fantastic at helping to keep spirits up on top of doing a very difficult job. We want to do everything we can to help them give these children and their families the best possible Christmas.

Latics’ Commercial Manager Jenny Warburton, who has been involved with the Christmas visit for the last three years, said: “There is never a good time to have a loved one in hospital, but the festive period can be particularly difficult, especially for families with young children who are very poorly.

Ben Ingham, from the SafeGuard Group, added: “We’re delighted to be involved with the Oldham Athletic Toy Appeal. It’s a superb initiative and we are happy to support it.

“SafeGuard is a family company based in Oldham and anything we can do to help Latics spread some festive cheer to the children is something we want to be involved in.”

Please ensure that gifts are received by noon on Saturday, December 14th. Anything that will help to give these children a better Christmas would be greatly appreciated.
