Latics hold City

1 November 2013

Youngsters not fazed by challenge

Latics under-16's produced a terrific performance to draw 2-2 against Manchester City in a friendly.

The game was goalless for an hour which was down to the brilliance of both goalkeepers, Latics' Chris Renshaw making a number of important saves.

Lee Knight fired Latics ahead after showing good skill.

City equalised, but Latics quickly regained the lead following a set piece from which a trialist found the net.

Latics had clear-cut chances to make it 3-1 and were made to pay for not taking them as City equalised with the last kick of the game as they were undone by a long ball over their defence.

Academy Manager Tony Philliskirk thanked opposite number Scott Sellars and City for agreeing to the game.
