Manager looks at loan market

Johnson considers strengthening before deadline

Lee Johnson is considering a couple loan moves before Thursday's transfer deadline.

Latics' manager has a left-sided defender and winger on his radar as this will be the last chance to strengthen before January 1st.

Johnson has lost two defenders with Joseph Mills returning to Burnley as his three-month loan has ended while Genseric Kusunga will miss the next three games through suspension. Another stopped Edijs Joksts picked up a back strain on international duty with Latvia under-21's.

On top of that, Latics are still waiting to discover the severity of the knee injury sustained by Cristian Montano.

Johnson said: "I am exploring the possibility and have not ruled out more incomings, though nothing is ready.

"The two areas I am looking at are left-sided defender and winger.

"I would say it is 80/20 against at the moment, but a lot will depend on what happens tomorrow at Shrewsbury."

Latics' manager added he is mindful about bringing in players and risking disrupting the chemistry of the squad.
