Johnson gives low down on loan captures

Lee Johnson is delighted with his two transfer-deadline signings.

Latics' manager has been speaking about the loan captures of former England under-17 international Ellis Plummer (pictured) and Wade Joyce.

The 19-year-old Plummer, a left sided defender who can play centre or left back, is a player who has caught the eye of Johnson.

He said: "I have watched Ellis quite a few times and he is athletic and powerful and, though not the biggest, he certainly has a big leap.

"He is left footed so can play left centre half or left back.

"I felt we needed another defender is and I am looking forward to working with him.

"Ellis is slightly different to what we already have and sometimes it is a case of horses for courses."

Johnson explained that the arrival of Joyce, also 19 is more of an extended trial as his contract at Barnsley expires in January. He has already been training with Latics for a number of weeks.

He said: "Wade is a good lad, a real football person and a good player.

"He needs to add certain things to his game to push towards our first team and I am having a closer look at him until January to see whether he can get to the point where he is knocking on the door of the first eleven."
