Murray on reserve-team defeat

5 November 2013

Coach pinpoints failings

Paul Murray pinpointed the failings of Latics' reserves following their 3-1 home defeat by Morecambe in Central League, West Division.

"The effort was there, but only individual effort rather than collectively as a team," explained the reserve-team coach.

Murray (pictured) was not too unhappy with the first-half display in which first-year scholar Ryan Ellison scored their equaliser to make it 1-1 at the break.

He said: "We played some good football and created openings in the first half when we were nearly there.

"However, the final ball was not good enough and we were close to having a good half."

Murray thought his players lost their way in the second half saying they played like individuals and not as a team.

He continued: "We made too many bad decisions and didn't show enough quality.

"I changed the formation, but it didn't have an effect."
