Reserve-team manager on Wrexham defeat
Paul Murray believes Latics' youngsters will be wiser for the experience gained in today's 2-1 reserve-team defeat by Wrexham at Chapel Road in Central League, West Division.Reserve-team manager Murray pointed to the fact Latics had seven scholars on the pitch at the end of the match.
He said: "It is great for the kids to get the chance to play in the reserves and they will be better for it.
"It was a spirited performance and a great learning curve for the kids who showed character."
Murray was especially pleased how Danny Byrnes and Kyle Hardman, two trainees, combined for Latics' goal which Hardman netted.
He added they were punished for their naivety, however, for both Wrexham goals.
Charlie MacDonald, back after a six match injury lay off, played his first football as he was on the pitch for just over one hour and came through unscathed.
Dutchman Sidney Schmeltz (pictured) also played almost three quarters of the match as he has seen little first-team action of late.
