Players with X-Factor

Clubs eye young talent

Lee Johnson was not surprised to see an army of Premier and Football League clubs represented at last night's Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie against Notts County.

Latics' manager believes it is further evidence that the club is moving in the right direction.

Johnson said: "It is good because it means clubs are coming to look at our players.

"We have such a young group and I am sure they will have gone away impressed with Danny Philliskirk, Jonson Clarke-Harris and James Tarkowski.

"Jonathan Grounds played well, James Dayton is on fire while Korey Smith (pictured) has been immense every week. How we got him at this level, I don't know.

"It is all good, and they are looking as all these players are aged 24 years or under.

"The good thing for us is that most of them are on two-year contracts."
