Rare shutout for Latics' Ladies

Oldham Athletic Ladies kept a clean sheet for the first time in 41 games when they defeated Moorside Rangers 3-0 in Division two of the Greater Manchester Women's Football League.

After conceding 298 goals in their previous 40 games, it was a day when Latics' defence held firm.

This was Moorside's first visit to Chapel Road and thankfully it was less eventful than the recent game at Moorside.

Latics were without Kim Shaw and Gemma Smith who were completing suspensions following dismissals in that game at Moorside. Anette Falch was also missing through injury.

Latics began the game strongly with Alys Wild, Shelby Newton and Harriett Busby seeing chances go begging.

It took 30 minutes for Latics to take the lead when Yasmin Deane fired home from just inside the box.

Leading scorer Shelby Newton soon added to the total when she broke away and placed a shot from distance past Moorside keeper Sarah Mullarkey.

Moorside, 2-0 down at the break, came out in the second half with renewed application as they caused Latics problems, though they never looked like breaching their defence.

It was in added time when the result was put beyond doubt when, player of the match, Cheredith Green won the ball, moved forward and fired home her first goal of the season.

Team: Dinsdale (Rachael), Williams, Hyde, Chrissaki, Brien, Dinsdale (Rebecca), Busby, Newton, Deane, Barber. Wild. Subs: Green, Wild, Kayupa, Turner.

Latics are away on Sunday to Manchester Rovers at Hough End Playing Fields (M20 1DR)
