First-team call for Clarke

Scholar celebrates call up

Latics have drafted second-year scholar Tomos Clarke into their squad for tonight's Sky Bet League 1 match at Notts County.

It is the first senior call for the 17-year-old Welshman (pictured) who provides defensive cover in the wake of a number of absences. He has been given the squad number 34.

James Tarkowski is banned, Connor Brown, Joseph Mills and Matteo Lanzoni injured while Cliff Byrne and Glenn Belezika are on loan.

Manager Lee Johnson says Wales under-17 international Clarke, who is from Bangor, deserves his chance.

He said: "It is the first time Tomos has travelled with the senior squad.

"Tomos has done well and been consistent with the youth team and reserves and deserves his chance.

"He is another young player we have produced and it is good for the club, Tony Philliskirk who has coached him, and also for Tomos himself."
