Boundary Park pitch maintenance work

Head groundsman Chris Bailey is pictured working on the pitch at Boundary Park with a state-of-the-art Air2G2 Injection Aerator.

The £22,000 piece of equipment, which has been hired from head greenkeeper Rick Roberts at Hart Common Golf Club, fires air into the ground to help de-compact the surface and helps the pitch breathe.

New to the United Kingdom and European market, the Air2G2 is described as the ultimate aerification machine.

It is hoped that the maintenance work will help the pitch stand up to the challenging winter months better than usual.

Bailey, who  spent nine hours working on the pitch with the Air2G2 Injection Aerator, said: "Hopefully this will help long term during the winter.

"As far as I am aware the machine has only been used a few times in football and rugby."

Bolton Wanderers and Leigh Centurions Rugby League Club have also hired the Air2G2 from Roberts at Hart Common.
