Latics remain unbeaten

28 October 2013

Five goals for Ladies

Oldham Athletic Ladies maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 5-2 victory at Greater Manchester Women’s Football League, Division Two leaders Reddish North End.

In often very challenging conditions, Latics battled hard for the victory.

Latics, with a strong wind behind them in the first half, scored four times.

Player-of-the-match Shelby Newton took only four minutes to set up Alys Wild for the opening goal.

Newton added a second with a ninth-minute penalty after she had been brought down.

Harriett Busby made it 3-0 with a volley and still quarter of an hour had not been completed.

Cheredith Green, on a foray forward, won the ball in midfield and set up Wild and she made no mistake shooting home to make it four.

Stand in keeper Kim Shaw, who put in an excellent performance, was beaten when Kelly Brown broke free from a rebound and beat her at the near post to make it 4-1 at the break.

Playing into the strong wind in the second half was always going to be difficult, and it took only three minutes for Reddish to register their second goal when Becky Bradley made a forward run into the box and shot across Shaw and just inside the far post.

Reddish made a push for a third goal but wayward finishing and excellent defending across Latics' back four kept them at bay.

Anette Falch made absolutely certain of victory when she chipped the Reddish keeper in injury time for Latics' fifth goal.

Latics: Kim Shaw, Rebecca Dinsdale, Catherine Hyde, Emmanvoela Chrissaki, Nicole Brien, Gemma Smith, Shelby Newton, Tasmin Deane, Harriett Busby, Annette Falch, Alys Wild. Subs: Dawn Wild, Cheredith Green, Patricia Turner.

Latics meet Manchester Rovers at Chapel Road on Sunday.
