Grayson named top manager

 

Leyton Orient striker David Mooney, who tomorrow plays against Latics at Boundary Park, has been named the Sky Bet League 1 Player of the Month for September.

 

Mooney has scored four goals in as many games helping to maintain Orient’s stunning start to the season, two of which were against Port Vale, the first of which was a well timed volley.

 

Leyton Orient manager Russell Slade said: “I’m very pleased for David to get the award and the recognition he deserves.

 

“He’s one of a number of players who has started well for us this season. His nine goals have really capped off some excellent performances."

 

Sky Bet Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “David Mooney has been in prolific form in front of goal this term. Nine goals from 12 games is a great return at any level.

 

“It’s great to see David has found a new lease of life at Orient and he's struck up a formidable partnership with Kevin Lisbie which has seen Orient off to an amazing start this season.”

 

Sky Bet Head of Football Paul Wiggins said: “David has been in devastating form this month.

 

“His ice-cool spot kick opener away to Brentford proved vital for the O’s continued fine form.”

 

The Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month Award went to Ipswich Town striker David McGoldrick.


In Sky Bet League 2, Fleetwood Townmidfielder Antoni Sarcevic was named Sky Bet Player of the Month.


Preston North End manager Simon Grayson, whose team play Latics on Tuesday in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, has been named the Sky Bet League 1 Manager of the Month for September.

 

Grayson lead his side to a perfect month with a maximum four victories and a goal differential of 8-2.

 

He bolstered his side in the summer bringing in the likes of Kevin Davies and has brought belief back to the Deepdale faithful.

 

Former Charlton Athletic manager Alan Curbishley chairs the Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel.

 

He said: “An impressive month for Preston taking maximum points from their four games.

 

“Grayson’s side have a solid platform to build on for the season after their strong start and he is a manager that has previously enjoyed considerable success in this division.”

 

Sky Bet Head of Football Paul Wiggins said: “It’s been a fantastic September for Preston as they won all of their Sky Bet League 1 games.

 

“Grayson’s decision to bring in the experienced Kevin Davies looks to be giving Preston more resilience than they’ve showed previously.”

 

In The Sky Bet Championship, Sean Dyche of Burnley was named Sky Bet Manager of the Month.

 

The Sky Bet League 2 Manager of the Month Award went to Rochdale boss Keith Hill.

 

The Manager of the Month judging panel comprises former Charlton Athletic manager Alan Curbishley; Sky Sports Football League expert Don Goodman; Football League Chief Operating Officer Andy Williamson; League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Head of Football Paul Wiggins.
