.... but 15-second goal fails to land place in record books

Danny Philliskirk's goal at Preston North End in Tuesday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie is one of the quickest scored by a Latics' player.

It was timed at 15 seconds which had many believing Philliskirk (pictured) could possibly have earned a place in the club's record books.

However, it has since transpired at least two players have found the net quicker than Philliskirk.

Wayne Andrews' goal in a 3-1 defeat at Wigan Athletic in April 2003 was timed at 11 seconds.

And five months later, Paul Murray scored after 13 seconds in a 5-2 win at Wycombe Wanderers.

The Association of Football Statisticians is delving through its archives to see if they can find evidence of any Latics' player who can beat 11 seconds as Andrews could well be the holder of the quickest goal scored by a Latics' player.
