Bove blunts Blades

Jordan Bove was spot on as his penalty forced extra time in Latics' FA Youth Cup, first-round tie against Sheffield United at Boundary Park.

The goal from the striker (pictured) cancelled the early goal from Otis Khan which had given the Blades the lead.

Latics, unlucky to be 1-0 down at the break, continued to match their Yorkshire opponents.

And midway through the second half they were handed a route back into the game.

Defender Ryan Ellison made a burst into the Blades' box and was brought down.

Bove smashed home the spot kick, his 13th goal in 12 youth-team matches this season.

Latics' keeper Joel Coleman then ensured his side remained on level terms making two smart saves to deny Joel Coustrain and Connor Dimaio.

There was a let off for Latics with seven minutes left when Jake Wright cut in from the right, but his shot flew wide of the far post.

And right at the death Eddie Fulwood came to Latics' rescue with a goalline clearance to boot a Ioan Evans header to safety following a corner.

Latics might even have snatched victory when a goalbound shot from Emile Tansinda was blocked.

Full-time: Latics under-18's 1, Sheffield United 1
