Latics lose way after dream start
Latics under-18's lost 2-1 at Tranmere Rovers despite making a dream start to their Football League Youth Alliance, North West Conference fixture.Jordan Bove (pictured) gave Latics the lead in the opening minute with a side-foot volley after running on to a Michael Brewster ball over the Tranmere defence.
It was Bove's 11th goal in 10 youth-team matches.
Latics played well for the opening 20 minutes and could have increased their lead.
Tranmere finished the opening period strongly, but Latics held on to their 1-0 advantage.
Latics made a terrible start to the second half as Tranmere equalised within 10 seconds of the kick off.
And they conceded a second, the match-winning goal with five minutes to go following a goalmouth scramble.
Academy Manager Tony Philliskirk described the result and performance as "disappointing" adding that Tranmere showed more desire while Latics' ball retention was poor.
