Jordan scores twice as Latics win ugly
Jordan Bove scored both goals as Latics under-18's beat Fleetwood Town 2-1 in the Football League Youth Alliance's North West Conference. After scoring 11 goals in their last two victories, this was a far tougher proposition with Academy Manager Tony Philliskirk declaring it was a case of "winning ugly."
Philliskirk described it as a scrappy game, one in which they suffered yet another injury blow after losing Danny Byrnes in the opening minutes with a knee problem.
Latics took the lead midway through the opening half when schoolboy left-back Jamie Stott crossed for Bove (pictured) to score from eight yards with a low side-foot shot.
Fleetwood equalised midway through the second period when Latics' defence was caught out by a ball over the top.
Jordache Walters and Tomos Clarke had half chances and Bove struck a post before Latics secured victory with 10 minutes left.
John Prichard's inswinging corner was met by Bove who volleyed into the top corner from six yards.
In the closing stages Latics had chances to win by a wider margin, Jack Tuohy having the best of them.
Philliskirk picked out Pritchard, Clarke and schoolboy Stott as his side's best players.
