Millar on the mark
Latics reserves established a 2-0 half-time lead in their Lancashire Senior Cup, first-round tie at Fleetwood Town.
A strike from Kirk Millar (pictured) and an own goal from Dominic Barrett put Latics into a position of strength at the break.
Fleetwood had four goalscoring chances in the opening quarter of an hour without seriously threatening to find the net.
It was Latics who made the breakthrough in the 20th minute following a mistake by central defender Mark Roberts.
Millar seized on the error and rounded keeper David Lucas before shooting into the far corner of the net.
Buoyed the goal, Millar let fly from distance only for his angled shot to narrowly clear the crossbar.
Latics had a let off when a wayward pass from Edijs Joksts was intercepted and Jon Parkin was released only to fire disappointlngly wide when well placed.
They doubled their advantage in the 42nd minute when a free kick from Jonson Clarke-Harris was flying well wide until it diverted into the net off hapless defender Dominic Barrett.
Half-time: Fleetwood Town reserves 0, Latics reserves 2.
