Walsh woe for Latics

Joe Walsh piled on the misery for Latics as he shot Crawley Town ahead early in their Sky Bet League 1 match at the Checkatrade.com Stadium.

After a difficult opening, Latics inched their way back into the game and Charlie MacDonald (pictured) had two great chances to equalise against his former club.

Latics yet again fell behind and were left chasing the game in the sixth minute.

They failed to clear Nicky Adams' goal attempt from Adam Drury's corner and centre-back Walsh fired into the roof of the net from inside the six-yard box.

Crawley had another decent chance when Mike Jones' drive from 25 yards flew narrowly wide.

Billy Clarke spotted keeper Mark Oxley off his line and tried a cheeky chip from 40 yards, but the effort was well off target.

Latics ought to have equalised in the 24th minute with their first chance of the match.

Korey Smith's delightful pass released MacDonald who was clean through on goal only for keeper Paul Jones to save superbly with his legs.

Latics had another great chance to draw level when MacDonald headed against the upright following an excellent cross from Jonathan Grounds.

Crawley almost doubled their advantage when Emile Sinclair burst clear and rounded Oxley before firing against the upright from a tight angle.

Sinclair had two further chances before the break, but each flew wide of the target.

Half-time: Crawley Town 1, Latics 0.
