High fives for fifties football

New event scores with over-50's


The third session of the new over 50's football - ‘50 Fives’ - was held on Monday and  staff were staggered by the turnout, especially with the weather so bad.

It is five-a-side football for those who are 50 years of age or older. The sessions are inclusive with anyone welcome, though all players much complete a health form prior to playing. The projects emphasis is on fun and getting back into football, with people welcome to either turn up on their own or bring friends with them.

"Exercise has many health benefits these include reducing the onset of heart disease, diabetes, cancer and other age related illnesses so get fit and have fun at the same time. We are keen to make this a success and have more sessions across Oldham.`

Kelly Tattersall, OCL Community Development Officer said: “From listening to what people want in their local area, we are now providing a weekly recreational football session which allows us to give individuals the enjoyment of playing a game of football without feeling you have to be the fastest on the pitch.
