New-boy relives Champions League memories
New Latics' signing Genseric Kusunga relived the highlight of his career - helping FC Basel knock Manchester United out of the Champions League. The 25-year-old (pictured) was in the squad when the Swiss side drew 3-3 at Old Trafford and then came on as a late substitute in the return when FC Basel won 2-1 to seal United's exit.
"Playing in the side which beat Manchester United was the highlight of my career and it was a great experience to play in the Champions League," he said.
Kusunga, who won the Swiss league in 2010/11 and league and cup double in 2011/12, found himself out of favour when there was a change of management at FC Basel.
He was loaned from FC Basel back to his first club Servette in 2012/13 season and in the summer became a free agent.
Kasunga added he rejected offers to play in Israel and Bulgaria to play for Latics adding there had been interest from other English clubs.
After training for a couple of days with Latics, Kasunga believes this was the right move for him.
He said: "I got on well with the lads and thought this would be a good environment for me to play my football.
"I am excited and it is a big challenge ands opportunity to play in a different country.
"I am here to do my best for Oldham, though obviously in the future I would like to play at the highest level if that is possible."
Kusunga won a place in two Switzerland under-21 squads, but was an unused substitute each time.
He has since committed his international future to Angola, where his parents were from, and played a friendly for them in the build up to the 2013 African Cup of Nations.
