Local company sponsors Academy

Latics are delighted to welcome the Safeguard Group to Oldham Athletic as the club’s new Academy sponsors.

This is a major two-year deal which will see the Academy re-named as the Oldham Athletic Safeguard Academy.

The Safeguard Group is an Oldham-based company which is passionate about the town, in particular its young people.

This link up is ideal for both the club and for Safeguard as the Academy runs nine teams from under eights upwards, with over 140 children attending sessions. The Academy is very successful with 10 of this season’s first-team squad have come through the club’s Academy.

Safeguard Group Education and Community Lead Ben Ingham said: "We are absolutely delighted to be the official sponsors to the Oldham Athletic Academy. This is a unique partnership that safeguards a very exciting future for us as a business and Oldham Athletic.

"As a family we have been supporting Latics for over 30 years so we all have a personal attachment to this partnership and its success.

"We look forward to being pro-active, including working with the education and community trust to deliver specific sessions for young people to participate in sport and to encourage them to support their local team.

"We have innovative strategies and programmes for working together through both local businesses and communites and this is an exciting time for all of us.”

Latics Sales and Marketing executive David Broadbent added: "This is a fantastic partnership for the club. The Academy is vital to the future of the club and the track record we have of producing young players is phenomenal.

"This partnership will help Tony Philliskirk and his team of dedicated coaches continue to develop the very best in young local talent both on the pitch and in their personal development through innovative educational programmes.

"I extend our thanks to Ben, Steve and all at the Safeguard Group for all the work that has gone into developing this partnership over the last few weeks and I look forward to a very happy and successful two years ahead."
