Latics under-18's beat Silkmen

Schoolboys Alex Read and Jamie Stott played starring roles for Latics under-18's who beat Macclesfield Town 4-2 at Chapel Road in the Football League Youth Alliance's North West Conference.

Read only received a late call up when Jordache Walters pulled out, but seized his chance.

Latics quickly built a 2-0 lead through goals from Jack Tuohy and John Pritchard.

Read made the break for the opener which was clinically finished by Tuohy while Pritchard smashed home a screamer from 20 yards.

Kyle Hardman and Pritchard were also denied by the woodwork as Latics could have finished the half with a far more commanding lead than 2-0.

Macclesfield pegged Latics back to 2-2 with 15 minutes left with Academy Manager Tony Philliskirk fearing his side might lose as the Silkmen were in the ascendancy.

Latics showed great resilience to hit back with two late goals to seal victory.

Hardman beat the Mac keeper to the ball and, as it looped into the air, Jordan Bove showed great anticipation to head into an empty net.

The fourth goal came as Bove headed the ball from a corner back across the face of goal for Stott to head in.

"The lads showed good attitude and knuckled down after being pegged back to 2-2. It was a good win," explained Philliskirk.
