Second-half report

Taming of the shrews

Latics reserves maintained their unbeaten start to their Central League campaign following a 3-2 victory at Shrewsbury Town.

The victory was built in the opening period when Latics scored all three of their goals through Edijs Joksts and Jonson Clarke-Harris (2).

Latics made hard work, however, as they allowed the Shrews to stage a second-half fightback in which they almost snatched a point.

Latics, 3-0 ahead at the break, started the second half as though the game was already won as they allowed Shrewsbury back into the game.

Sam Molyneux forced a good save from Joel Coleman, Dave McAllister headed over and Kamien Anderson fired into the side netting in the space of three minutes.

It was no surprise when Shrewsbury found the net in the 57th minute when Molyneux broke clear on the right and fired an unstoppable shot past Coleman.

McAllister came close to further reducing the deficit with a shot which narrowly cleared the crossbar.

And it was the dangerous McAllister who made it 3-2 with three minutes left with a terrific shot from the left of the box into the far corner.

Full-time: Shrewsbury Town reserves 2, Latics reserves 3.
