Latics unlucky losers

Latics were yet again unlucky losers as they went down 1-0 to an early goal in their Sky Bet League 1 match at Crawley Town.

Joe Walsh's sixth-minute goal earned Crawley maximum points as Latics suffered their sixth league loss of the campaign.

Yet Latics had enough chances and enough of the game to have picked up at least one point from the visit to the Checkatrade.com Stadium.

Latics, 1-0 down at the break, made a change at the restart as Anton Rodgers was replaced by Sidney Schmeltz.

Jonson Clarke-Harris (pictured) had an early chance, but his deflected shot flew straight to keeper Paul Jones.

Charlie MacDonald was denied by the woodwork for a second time as he headed against the crossbar from a Joseph Mills cross as Jones clawed out the loose ball from on the goalline.

Clarke-Harris had another opening, but his fiercely-struck free kick was blocked by Danny Bulman.

Latics made a second change in the 63rd minute when Clarke-Harris made way for Adam Rooney.

Crawley had a great chance to score a second when Billy Clarke fired narrowly wide from a Nicky Adams cross when it looked as though he could not miss.

Latics made their third and final change in the 72nd minute when Danny Philliskirk came on for James Dayton.

There was drama late on when Philliskirk almost scrambled home a MacDonald knockdown as keeper Jones made a desperate save.

It was then Oxley's turn to keep Latics in the game denying Adams with his legs with the winger clean through on goal.

Full-time: Crawley Town 1, Latics 0.
