Korey Smith and James Dayton Post Carlisle United

28 April 2014

Both Korey Smith and James Dayton believe the side have what it takes to remain unbeaten for the rest of the season.

Dayton scored the only goal of the game with a superb solo run and finish past the goalkeeper to ensure Latics play League One football next season.

Speaking after Saturday's victory, the pair did not want to take their foot off the gas and are forecasting a positive end to the season.

Smith said: "It's another game unbeaten. That's four wins and four draws and we're really happy with our form. We wish we could have done it earlier in the season."

Goalscorer Dayton echoed his captain's sentiments: "We're looking forward to Tuesday and keeping the run going. We should have picked up more points at the start of the season.

"We were playing some great football but we weren't scoring as many goals as we should. It's really frustrating that we've only started to gel at the end of the season," continued the winger.

"Hopefully we can keep this team together and really push for the playoffs next season."

Smith, who signed permanently with the club in the summer, outlined his expectations for the rest of the season.

"When this run started, we set the target of going to the rest of the season unbeaten. Obviously we are safe now but we still want to do that," stated the captain.

"We're going to give it our all to go until the end of the season unbeaten."
