Ron Millward To Retire

14 April 2014

After over 30 years of service to the football club, scout Ron Millward is to leave the club at the end of the season.

The youth scout, who can be accredited with spotting youngsters such as Andy Hughes, Chris Taylor and James Tarkowski, will retire at the end of the season after an illustrious association with Oldham Athletic Football Club.

Millward has assisted Tony Philliskirk throughout his stay with Latics and the youth team manager spoke about the influence he has had on the youth set-up.

He said: "If it was not for Ronnie and the rest of the scouting staff, we would not have the quality of player that is being bought into the academy and he's been invaluable.

"I've worked with him for the 16 years that I've been here and he's not just excellent at his job, but he's a lovely man. Even though he's retiring, I know that he's only on the other end of the phone if I need him to watch a player. The person coming in to replace him has big shoes to fill, definitely.

"I'd like to applaud everything he's done. He's been very professional and he's leaving a big hole at the football club."

Everybody at the club would like to thank Ron for his commitment to Oldham Athletic and wish him a very happy retirement.
