Latics Draw With Blackburn

4 August 2014

A last minute strike from forward Danny Philliskirk sealed a 2-2 draw in a behind-closed doors friendly against Blackburn Rovers today.

William Gros gave Latics the lead with a stunning 25-yard curling effort into the top corner in the first half but two goals from Blackburn, one being a penalty, gave the hosts the lead.

But it was Philliskirk that levelled the game in the dying minutes after finishing from the edge of the area with his shot going in off the post.

The lineup featured the professionals which came on as substitutes in Saturday's 3-1 victory over Huddersfield Town, which meant starts for Connor Brown and David Mellor.

Speaking about the performance, manager Lee Johnson felt his side more than matched their Championship counterparts.

He said: "It was a great run out against an experienced Blackburn side with big name players. It was a brilliant exercise for us as a group and I was delighted for Willie as it was a spectacular goal."
