Physio Set To Depart

28 August 2014

Head physio Jon Guy is set to leave the club next month to further his knowledge in the field of physiotherapy.

The 29-year-old has been offered the opportunity to lecture at Bolton university along with taking his masters and PHD.

Guy, who has spent six and a half years with Latics, will be sad to leave the place but feels he needs to leave in order to progress his career.

He said: "I came here as the assistant physio so I've progressed and I've had the pleasure of making the department my own. It's nice to see the young lads like Tarkowski, Mellor and Winchester come through and do well so that gives me pleasure knowing that I've helped their career.

"I did not want to leave because I love the place and think the club are going places but there is not a lot I can do. I will miss the club as it is a real family unit. I'm leaving when the club is on the rise because for five years, I've not been able to see a stand on the other side of the pitch so I'll have to come back and sit in it. It will be a sad day when I leave.

"It's virtually impossible to do anything additional at the football club and financially it's going to benefit me. It's an opportunity I could not turn down. It allows me to get extra qualifications and progress in what I want to do. For me to progress, I need to do further education to get to the heights I want to hit so it was a no brainer for me."

The physio's last game for Oldham Athletic will be the home fixture with Scunthorpe United on September 27.
