Big Incentive For Winner States Philliskirk

5 December 2014

Latics forward Danny Philliskirk has no hard feelings against Doncaster Rovers ahead of Saturday's second round clash with the side.

Philliskirk trained with Rovers throughout the summer of 2013 but a move never materialised with the club and Latics swooped for the 23-year-old.

The striker finished last season as Latics' top goalscorer and currently has five goals this season in all competitions.

He said: "I've got no hard feelings about Doncaster Rovers and me coming here has been the best decision I've made so I can't hold grudges against anybody.

"We are higher up in the table so that is enough for me at the moment but we need to keep doing that. We can't get too high at the minute and we've got to carry on digging in there. It is an FA Cup game and could possibly get a big team in the third round so it's a big incentive.

"There used to be a lot of players who used to be here but you don't think about that when the game starts. Everybody wants to win and get through to the next round so it's just another game to us. We are wanting to win the game and going into it full of confidence."

After only one defeat in 19 games, the forward admitted: "Even when we don't play well, we seem to be getting results. Sheffield United was a tough game but we managed to grind a point from it even though we played well there.

"There is a good togetherness, good spirit and we are hardworking this season. We all work for each other, hunt in packs around the field and know each others games which helps massively."

Over 3,000 fans were in attendance against Rochdale and Philliskirk believed they made the difference and admits it could act as a springboard to kick on from.

"The atmosphere was class," commented the 23-year-old. "They were the only fans you could hear throughout the game.

"I was saying to Daniel Johnson before the game that these are the games that we need to be winning if we want to be up there at the end of the season. When you score in front of fans like that it is just a special feeling for anybody."
