Support Drove Latics To Victory States Daniel Johnson

1 December 2014

Aston Villa loanee Daniel Johnson tasted derby day success on Saturday as he struck twice to win the game for Latics.

The 22-year-old, who signed for the club on loan last month, stated in his first interview with the club he would bring goals to the side and it is a statement which has come true.

Johnson has notched three goals in his short spell with the club so far but he was quick to acknowledge the effort of his teammates.

He said: "I'm just really delighted we got the win because that's the most important thing. It's a big derby game against our local rivals so I'm delighted that I got the goals but more delighted that we got the three points to move further up the table.

"It is the first time I have played in an atmosphere like this in front of the fans and it was different class so that drove us through the game as well. I'm delighted they helped us win the game."

The youngster profited from Danny Philliskirk's neat work but initially did not believe he had scored.

"I thought I was offside if I'm completely honest and I was surprised it came back to me but thanks to Dan for the ball through.

"I thought Danny did well with the help of the two assists for me. I think it was an overall good team performance."
